Danone North America, which is positioned as “the largest, purpose-driven food and beverage company,” has announced the acceptance of applications for its annual fellowship grant. This opportunity will award two graduate students with $25,000 each to research connections between the gut microbiome, yogurt, probiotics, and human health.

Over the course of 13 years, Danone North America fellowship grant recipients have explored central questions to this field of study — from the effects of probiotics on metabolism and early-life microbiota’s implications for protecting against obesity to what effect gut bacteria and food intake have on brain development and more.

Miguel Freitas, PhD, Vice President of Nutrition and Scientific Affairs at Danone North America, shared about the fellowship grant: “There is still so much to learn about the connection between our gut microbiome and chronic disease. University labs make important discoveries in this area, which is why we are so committed to supporting graduate student researchers.”
