Giant Food and Divert have announced the results of a partnership that has seen the grocery store brand joining forces with the circular economy company as a way to divert food waste from the landfill. The program has seen all of the brand’s 163 banner store locations diverting their unsold food waste from landfills for use in anaerobic digestion, which is thus used for creating beneficial solutions for the environment. This includes nutrient-rich soil for amending the land and even carbon-negative renewable energy.
SVP of Operations at Giant Food Diane Hicks spoke on the Giant Food and Divert partnership saying, “Partnering with Divert has allowed us to make a tangible difference in reducing food waste and supporting our communities. Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in every facet of our operation. We’re proud to lead the way in transforming how the industry handles unsold food, and we’re excited to continue driving positive change for our customers, our communities, and the environment.”
